Drugs We Screen For
Resultz Group are able to test for these common types of drugs:
A stimulant drug which when used correctly is commonly prescribed for disorders such as attention deficit disorder, depression, obesity, allergies and narcolepsy.
Amphetamines can be used to improve performance & cognitive function but may be abused as an aphrodisiac or euphoriant. Recreational dosages are generally far higher than a prescribed dose and therefore will likely exceed cut off limits.
Amphetamine psychosis (e.g., delusions and paranoia) can occur in heavy users. Although very rare, this psychosis can also occur at therapeutic doses during long-term therapy.
A depressant, known as a sedative/anti-anxiety type drug. Benzodiazepines can be prescribed for epilepsy, alcohol withdrawal, panic attacks, as a muscle relaxant, or as an anaesthetic prior to surgery. These medications are usually prescribed sparingly and for only short periods of time as tolerance builds quickly and withdrawal symptoms may be experienced.
These medications can be used illegally by people wishing to experience the intoxicating feeling of the drug, Benzodiazepines have also been known to be used by Meth users trying to soften their “come down”.
It is common for recreational users to take high doses of benzodiazepines as they are not always aware of recommended dosages and are administering the drug to achieve a state of intoxication.
Cannabis is a depressant and the most commonly abused drug in New Zealand. It is grown from the cannabis sativa plant. The psychoactive compound in cannabis is delta 9 tetrahydrocannabinol commonly referred to as THC. The potency can vary depending on how the plant has been grown and which form has been used.
The high provided by smoking cannabis usually lasts for 6-8 hours however the THC compound is stored in fat cells and can remain in the body for a substantially longer period.
Cocaine is a highly addictive stimulant drug derived from the coca bush which is mainly grown in South American countries. Because it must come through borders to get to New Zealand it is expensive. It provides similar effects as Methamphetamine although it gives a shorter ‘high’.
Tolerance develops after excessive use over long periods, so users require larger doses to achieve desired effects. This increases the likelihood of harm to health.
Smoking cocaine long-term can result in chest pains, lung trauma, shortness of breath, sore throat, and aching flu like symptoms.
Snorting cocaine breaks down the cartilage in the nostrils and long term injection use can cause blocked blood vessels, collapsed veins, tetanus, abscesses, and damage to the lungs, heart, liver and brain.
Is a highly addictive stimulant drug which is illegally manufactured in clandestine laboratories from highly corrosive and dangerous substances. It is more potent than Amphetamine alone.
Effects can vary depending on the type and amount of methamphetamine used, how it is taken, and individual factors like tolerance, size, gender, and health. The onset of effects is fastest when methamphetamine is injected or smoked.
Heavy and frequent use can lead to ‘methamphetamine psychosis’ for some people. This condition is characterised by paranoid delusions, hallucinations and bizarre, aggressive or violent behaviour.
People coming down after using methamphetamine can experience feelings of exhaustion, irritability, mood swings, depression and violence. These feelings are more pronounced after heavy, prolonged use, and can last up to several days after methamphetamine use has stopped.
Opiates are depressant drugs derived from the poppy flower and are highly addictive and easy to overdose on. The main illicit drug derived from opiates is heroin. Other opiate drugs include opium, morphine, pethidine, codeine, oxycodone, methadone and buprenorphine. Heroin is very expensive in New Zealand so ‘homebake’ and morphine sulphate are used more commonly.
For centuries, opiates have been used both recreationally and medicinally. While recreational use is outlawed in most countries, their medical use as a painkiller is widespread.
Methadone is often used as a replacement therapy for people addicted to opiates. A newer product called buprenorphine is now also used as a replacement therapy for heroin dependence.
Pure opiates, such as pure heroin, are relatively non-toxic to the body. However, illicit heroin and “homebake” are usually cut with other substances and this makes purity unpredictable and increases the risk of overdose.
Synthetic Cannabis
Alcohol

How It Works
Saliva tests are conducted in accordance with AS/NZS 4760:2019.
Oral fluids include saliva, sputum from the lungs and throat, and nose drainage. The body will absorb drugs whether they are swallowed, snorted or ingested. As a result, any oral fluid can be used for drug testing.
Blood serum and oral fluid are very similar, so anything in the oral fluid ends up in the blood. The consequence is that if it’s in the blood, it’s in the brain too, and therefore the person may be deemed under the influence.
What is Hair Strand Test?
Hair drug testing involves collecting hair and testing it for illegal drugs. Hair strand testing detects people who choose a lifestyle of drug use (drug abuse) as opposed to one-time use. Compared to other methods of drug testing, it can detect drugs for a longer period of time, providing a history of drug use.
How Does It Work?
Hair growth is fed by the bloodstream, drug metabolites taken orally, via injection, snorted, or smoked, are delivered into each hair strand via the bloodstream and embedded inside the hair shaft.
Hair analysis can accurately detect drugs used up to 90 days prior to the test. Each 3.8cm sample of hair provides a 90-day history of drug use.
What Drugs Can Be Tested For?
- Amphetamines / Methamphetamine
- Cannabis
- Opiates
- Cocaine
- PCP
- Other drug groups (including Alcohol) can be tested upon request

Detect Harmful Substances Immediately
In New Zealand, urine drug testing is the most popular method of drug testing onsite. Results are available at the time of collection. A urine sample screen immediately identifies which employees are potentially outside the range of workplace compliance (ASNZ4308:2008 ).
Test results will indicate whether an employee has used drugs in the days prior to drug testing.
Alcohol use at work is a serious issue. If you suspect an employee is intoxicated, a breathalyser test can provide immediate results.
